mechanicaL dRawing

we have been doing floor plans in my mechanical drawing class for the last four weeks. first, we were taught how to sharpen pencils using a cutter. our teacher, Pojie, said ID students don't sharpen pencils the usual way. for those using clutch mechanical pencils, a sharpener intended for such kind is available in any bookstore.

we drew horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines in the first plate. then we were taught how to hone our lettering skills, that is writing in capital letters impeccably. on the third week of the month, we did the first plate on basic floor plan, using scales of 3/8=1'0'' and 3/4=1'0".

so far, we have done four plates on floor plan or what he called `cut plan', which is the top view from 5 foot 6 inches below. so far, we have done plates on furniture arrangement, windows, doors and walls using the english scale, circular template, T-square and the 45 degree triangle.

then a homework on all plates put together on just one `hopia' paper without construction lines and center lines would equate one quiz/exam.

mech draw is far too different from journalism. i can't even find the connection at all, 'cept for the fact that we also do layouts in newspapers. the difference is, we don't plan spaces at all. however, the difference is a breath of fresh air for me. and i am enjoying the new experience instead.

i am actually aiming at getting good grades on both subjects (God willing). and the best part is, i am learning a lot of things and i am enjoying every minute of it. i'll be posting the plates for you to see soon...;)
